Stoughton offers dozens of historic buildings and landmark homes, with classic architecture in Victorian, Arts and Crafts bungalow, Queen Ann Style, Italianate, and American Foursquare themes. A stroll through the east side, northwest side, southwest side, Depot Hill, and Main Street historic districts is like a walk through time, harkening back to the days when architectural character, quality, and craftsmanship were the norm. Walking the historic neighborhoods offers a great way to learn about the amazing variety of real estate in Stoughton. Kegonsa, Fox Prairie, and Sandhill elementary serve the grade school levels, while River Bluff Middle School and Stoughton High School provide education to the older levels. Stoughton offers five public schools in total. Local golf courses include the Stoughton Country Club, Coachman’s Golf Resort, and the Creekview par three course. The city features 17 community parks including LaFollette County Park, the Yahara River, and Lake Kegonsa State Park. Parks and outdoor recreational opportunities are plentiful in the Stoughton area. The city hosts the annual Coffee Break Festival and Victorian Holiday Weekend, two other events which make life in Stoughton unique. The Stoughton Opera House and the Stoughton Historical Society connect residents with local history. The three day event is a celebration of Norwegian culture that includes arts and crafts, food, music, dancing, and an annual run which attracts hundreds of participants from around Wisconsin. The city is host to its popular “Syttende Mai” celebration, an annual ritual marking Norway’s independence.
